LMTV History

The Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (LMTV) was developed by the United States military in the 1980s as a replacement for the aging M809 series of trucks, which had been in service since the 1950s. The LMTV was designed to be a highly mobile, all-terrain truck that could transport personnel, equipment, and supplies in a variety of environments and conditions.

Development of the LMTV began in the early 1980s, with the goal of creating a standardized family of trucks that could be easily maintained and operated by military personnel. The LMTV was designed to be highly modular, with interchangeable components and systems that could be easily replaced or upgraded in the field.

The first LMTV prototypes were built in 1984, and after extensive testing and evaluation, the LMTV was approved for production in 1989. The initial production contract was for 35,000 vehicles over a five-year period, and the LMTV quickly proved to be a highly effective and reliable vehicle for a wide range of military missions.

Over the years, the LMTV has undergone numerous upgrades and modifications to improve its performance and capabilities. It has been used in a variety of roles, including troop transport, cargo transport, ambulance, and command and control. The LMTV has also been exported to dozens of countries around the world and has been used in a variety of military and civilian operations.
